Get Acquainted with Your Higher Self

Higher Self Newsletter HeaderEveryone has intuition and a lot of us are even gifted in this department, but because of various blocks, belief systems, or lack of encouragement… it is possible to shut down that connection.  It’s never really gone, but we can feel like it is.

When our intuition is “offline”  the symptoms are a lack of self-trust, fear, and ungroundedness.  It can be extremely disempowering.  Often we feel like something is wrong with us because we’re struggling with energetic sensitivity, poor boundaries, spinning our wheels, and intense vulnerability.  It’s a worthwhile endeavor to reconstitute this inner connection because it is the source of the good stuff we’re often missing in our lives.

When I first began my journey to reconnect with my intuition, I was suffering in a lot of ways, and I knew deep down that learning to trust myself was imperative.  I began studying anything I could get my hands on about intuition, and frankly it was a bit overwhelming.

The first thing I wanted to know was:  when I use my intuition what am I connecting with?  It was important to me that I understand what kind of information to ask for and what kind of guidance I was getting.  I wanted to know that I was connecting with the LIGHT and that the guidance I was receiving was for my HIGHEST GOOD.

There are lots of sources for intuitive guidance.  You can use your intuition to connect with angels, spirit guides, nature spirits, Ascended Masters, and the Akashic Records… just to name a few.  You can also connect with your Higher Self.  All of these sources of spiritual guidance evolve out of the Divine.

However, not every source of spiritual guidance is good for every situation. For example: angels are extremely loving and can give us beautiful energetic healing and support, but with a few exceptions, most have never incarnated into the 3rd dimension.  They have no idea what it’s like to be cold or hungry or need to make a living… and often angelic guidance is very sweet, loving but not great when it comes to concrete action steps.

Our Spirit Guides  journey with us in this lifetime and most have been incarnated 3rd dimensionally but have much higher vibration rates. They are able to help with next steps and more specific guidance, but they can’t make your problems magically disappear and they won’t interfere.  If we’re not running the show, asking for assistance, and taking action, they sit quietly until we give them something to do.

Actually all spiritual helpers work this way.  They are helpers and we are in the driver seat of our lives.  If we don’t have clear intentions our guides can’t really help us get there, and if we don’t take action on the guidance we receive… they can’t make us do anything.  Ultimately, we’re in charge.

That’s why the best place to begin is connecting with your HIGHER SELF which is the command central for all of these spiritual resources and the headquarters for your soul’s journey.  This is your soul’s internal GPS system and a big ally when it comes to setting intentions and charting a course for your day, your week, or even your life.

As a soul you have a well of gifts and potential just waiting to flow through you out into the world. Your Higher Self is the voice of your inner wisdom, your conscience, and the bright ideas and beautiful visions that come to you when you least expect them.

This divine part of you has a bigger view of your life.  It knows your soul’s purpose, the life lessons it has chosen, and the gifts it has in abundance.  It knows where you are on the map of your life, it can see a lot farther down the road than you can.  It wants to steer you toward fulfillment and happiness.  More than anything, it wants you to recognize that it’s not separate from you – it is you. It’s the best you ever, and it already exists. You aren’t trying to create it or earn it or go out and find it.

You are a channel for your Higher Self and you are here to experience your divine soul gifts. When you are living authentically, giving expression to your deepest desires – creating businesses, artwork, relationships, events, etc. {whatever it is that you’re dreaming about} and expressing your soul’s gifts through these activities, you are expressing your divinity. You are in alignment with your soul, and you will feel a sense of deep satisfaction and fulfillment as you proceed {even if it’s challenging and a little scary sometimes}.

Learning to connect with your Higher Self is empowering because it puts you in touch with your inner truth and places you in the driver’s seat of your life.  It’s a first step towards creating a soul-full life and learning some tools to help you cultivate this relationship can help activate you intuition, stimulate your creativity and strengthen your boundaries.  So get acquainted with your Higher Self and bring your intuition back online for healthy boundaries, clear intentions, and powerful creating.

Manifestation 101: Your Dreams are Growing

Three of Pentacles from The Goddess Tarot

I’ll also be moving the blog over to it’s new home in the coming months, and I’d love to stay connected with you, so please take a minute to follow me over there.  I look forward to seeing you in at jennifercurrie.com : )

So,with all that said… I’m jumping back in with a look at the Three of Pentacles. It’s a great earthy card and that means taking action, learning through experience, and seeing tangible results ~ something is blooming and it’s time to celebrate the progress and share it. It’s time to let folks into the studio, the kitchen, the portfolio, the manuscript, the business… whatever it is you’ve been working on and dreaming about. The Three of Pentacles has a message about the stage of manifestation that can sometimes be a little tricky… especially if you’re inner perfectionist has a loud voice.

So let’s talk a bit about manifesting. When I use this word I’m talking about taking something intangible {like an idea, a dream, a vision} and making it into an experience ~ something you can see, touch, taste, hear, and smell. You’re bringing it into form.

Manifesting is a CREATIVE process regardless of the vision. You could have an idea for a totally left-brained financial business, a dream to write your artsy novel, or an amazing plan for your family’s next dream vacation. Regardless of the scenario ~ you’re now in the creative process of making it happen, and there are some necessary steps that have to be taken along the way in order to achieve success. Here are the basic stages. I can’t seem to think about manifesting without using a gardening metaphor… so here goes:

  1. The Seedling: In the beginning stages you have to nurture your dream and let it gestate a bit. This is where you go inward, connect with your spirit and let it fuel your exploration. You may feel like a novice during this stage because you’ll probably need to learn some new skills, do some research, practice your craft, and build your confidence. There will be a lot of “firsts” during this phase, and it’s a delicate time because it’s easy to get the wind knocked out of your sails from an unkind remark or a rejection. That’s why you need a greenhouse. There will be times when it’s best to keep quiet about your work, get busy behind the scenes, and be selective about who you share with.
  2. The Healthy Plant: You’ve sprouted, and it’s time to grow full-out. You’re getting some traction and you’re ready to put your creation out into the world. You’ve basically learned everything you can from the safe incubator of the greenhouse. Your research is done, and you’ve practiced and mastered the skills you were able to cultivate in that environment. The only way to grow now is to get out in the bigger garden {the world} and get some experience under your belt. It’s time to share the big idea, get feedback, collaborate, and learn by doing. Action is your new best friend.
  3. The Flourishing Garden: At this stage you are hitting your stride. You’ve cleared many of the outer and inner blocks, and while you’re still learning and growing ~ you feel more confident. You’ve got healthy roots, and it’s easier to expand and send out new shoots of inspiration. You’re in the creative flow.
  4. The Harvest: You’ve got a solid foundation, and your creativity is able to expand exponentially. Your ideas come to fruition much more quickly because you have created a base for abundance. You have more resources at your fingertips and even though you will continue to create and will go through these stages over and over again, you are mastering manifestation and things come together more quickly and more joyfully.

The Three of Pentacles is guiding us through Stage 2, and I often find that this can be one of the most difficult transitions. Taking yourself out of the safe inner sanctum of research into a more active and visible place in the world can be a little scary, but It’s also a time to embrace and celebrate.

It took a lot of work to get to this stage, and it takes courage to put it into action. If this is where you are, pat yourself on the back because this is HUGE! The important thing to remember is that you are not alone because no matter how slick the marketing, or how confident the people in stages 3 and 4 look… they had to go through stage 2 to get there.

We don’t always hear about Stage 2 because it’s kind of like the adolescence of manifestation. It’s not so glamorous, but it’s beautiful nonetheless and the place we do our most profound transformation. The Three of Pentacles is encouraging you to be brave because you’re READY. You don’t need to incubate anymore, you need to take action and have fun while you’re doing it. Hold onto your vision but let it rest gently in your hand instead of squeezing it tightly. The Divine has your back and this is exactly where you’re supposed to be. It’s part of the process, and every experience you have now is leading you to that amazing Harvest that got you excited to begin the journey in the first place. xo

True Courage and the Power of Your Inner Wildness

Strength from the Druid Craft Tarot

Strength from the Druid Craft Tarot

Strength is the 8th card of the Major Arcana and traditionally depicts a young woman with her arms around a lion.  This Druid inspired deck depicts a boar instead of a big cat, but in both cards the symbol is one of tamed power.  The lesson of this card is about merging with and harnessing the feral aspects of one’s soul and making friends with that wildness.  The message it brings is: Your strength lies in your ability to have faith, let go, and work from the inside out rather than the outside in.  Strength lies in authenticity and honesty with yourself and others.  It’s time to stop playing roles for other people.  It’s time to start moving through the world with solid, grounded footsteps, taking good care of your body, being very truthful with yourself and wide awake with your emotions.

When you tap into the powerful, fiery energy of Strength, you feel courageous.   Your passions come alive and you have everything you need to see them through ~ not because you’re working hard to create that force, but because you are harmoniously allowing it to flow through you.  Ultimately it teaches that true strength lies in wholeness, and the way to wholeness is through gentle self-compassion.

How does this wildness show up?  In the negative, it shows up when we’re weak-willed, numbed-out, or addicted ~ that’s when it’s ruling us.  In the positive, it brings about passion and inspiration ~ that’s when we’re in harmony with it.  The Strength card is about realizing that we need to be awake and aware of what is going on in our physical bodies, emotional bodies, mental and spiritual bodies.  It’s time as Mary Oliver puts it, “… to let the warm animal of your body love what it loves.”  This will lead you right into knowing where you belong in the “family of things” {from the poem “Wild Geese”}.  Strength wants us to integrate all our scattered pieces through deep and abiding self-compassion.  You don’t tame the beast by beating it down ~ you tame it through love and acceptance.

Let the crisp cold air of winter help you wake up and notice where you’ve been checking out.  Let your honest and authentic self be what shows up in the world.  Strength is about reclaiming self-esteem and channeling that energy into your true passions.  When you’re embodying this lesson you won’t have to go to battle, defend yourself, and fight to be strong.  You’ll know that your strength resides in your authentic nature.  You have accepted and lovingly tamed the parts of you that seemed wild, unacceptable, or out of control by loving them ~ a truly bold and courageous act.

Here’s a checklist to help you check-in with your 4 bodies:

˜       Physical Body:  Are you rested?  Do you have aches and pains?  Do you need to eat better, get more exercise, or maybe slow down a bit?  Check in.  The first thing you think of is the place that needs your attention.

˜       Emotional Body:  What are you feeling?  If you feel sad and need to cry then allow the tears to flow ~ your spirit is asking for cleansing.  If you’re angry, take a look at your boundaries and imagine sending fiery energy into a bright protective barrier all around your body.  Notice how you’re feeling and sit with that emotion so the energy can be released.

˜       Mental Body:  Are you scattered, confused, or locked in a noisy inner world of endless mind chatter?  Are you processing too much information?  Do you need to rest mentally or do you need to learn something new to stoke the fire of your inspiration.   Take a moment and just breathe slowly.

˜       Spiritual Body:  Do you feel overwhelmed or inspired?  Do you feel like you can trust life or are you frozen?  What does your spirit need most right now?  Rest, movement, creativity, silence… whatever you think of first is your answer.

Be Kind to Yourself

The Princess of Cups from the Druid Craft Tarot

The Princess of Cups from the Druid Craft Tarot

It’s been a while since my last post, and I have to say I’ve been juggling a lot of things the last few months of 2013.  When responsibilities start piling up, I have to be super conscious about self-criticism and and lack of self-care.  Add a string of holidays to the mix, and I’m sure you can see where this could lead:  Stress-ville.  That’s why I was so comforted and pleased to see the Princess of Cups show up for these last couple of weeks of December.  Her message is:  Be kind to yourself, honor your sensitivity, and nurture the light within.

The Princess of Cups is also known as the The Page of Cups in more traditional Tarot decks, and they represent children, youth, innocence, being a beginner, openness, and embracing wonder.  I have to admit that this particular Princess of Cups is my favorite of all the decks I’ve seen.  She is savoring the blessings of her cup.  She is quiet, inward, sincere, and very grounded {just look at her bare feet standing solidly on a rock by the pool of water.}  All of these things are exactly what we need during these busy times.

The meaning of this card is sweet, simple, and to the point.  Savor this precious time.  Be good to yourself and nurture your physical body so you can stay grounded.  Take time to enjoy the connections of family and friends, and remember that it’s the energy rather than the “stuff” you bring that will be most remembered.  Notice the wonder of this magical time of year {we had our first snow over the weekend, and it was so hushed, reverent, and beautiful.  It slowed everything down, and it felt like a gift to be able to stay home, make beef stew, and just putter around.} Be grateful, laugh, play and remember that you are enough.

It’s easy to get swept up in the intensity of holiday activities, but one of the reasons this is such a time of celebration is that it’s the time of the winter solstice ~ the longest night of the year.   As the light dims outwardly, it’s a time to go inward and kindle the light within ourselves.  The Princess of Cups is the essence of open-heartedness and connection, and she knows that the love/light starts within each one of us.  So keep your flame burning bright by being kind and loving to you, and you’ll end up blessing everyone around with the light of your own warm heart.  Being sparkly is contagious!

I’m sending you lots of love for your holidays and wishing you the most beautiful, joy-filled season.  Thank you for all the warm wishes and kind words over the past year… it’s been deeply felt and appreciated.  I’ll be back in January with a new website and a whole new journey! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! xo

Plant Seeds and Pull Weeds

Ace of Coins from the Golden Tarot

Ace of Coins from the Golden Tarot

Does life feel like a bit of a roller coaster ride these days?  Maybe you’re having great moments followed by moments of zero inspiration, with spasms of fear and worry thrown in at regular intervals?  I’ve been hearing a lot of spiritual teachers and New Thought leaders talking about “Ascension Symptoms”, and from what I’ve learned, that roller coaster experience just about covers it.  Basically, this comes from the observation that the energy on the planet has shifted and increased in a pretty major way starting in December of 2012.  Even if you’re not a “woo woo” kind of person who gives much thought to such things, you’re probably feeling some sort of change in your life over the past year or so.  I hear people remark frequently that they can’t believe how fast the time is flying by, or they can’t believe the political situations, or they can’t believe how many people are suffering in their relationships or with their finances.  I also hear a lot of stories about miraculous events ~ major epiphanies that are transforming relationships, vulnerable moments that are opening hearts, and acts of generosity that completely amaze and inspire me.

So… what does all this have to do with The Ace of Coins?  I had to pause and ask myself that question when I first pulled this card, but it is becoming more and more clear that we are in a time of learning to do things a new way ~ and that’s exactly what this card is reminding us.  The Aces in the tarot are about new energies, opportunities, ways of seeing and doing.  These cards guide us to plant or tend new seeds in one way or another, but the analogy of the garden is most appropriate for The Ace of Coins {also called Pentacles} because this is the suit that represents the element of Earth.  This card is literally about learning by doing.  When it shows up, the guidance is to take some sort of action even if it’s just a baby step because this is how you become a master gardener.  You have to plant something in the ground and have the experience of tending it to really “get” it.

Many times we have a big vision or a dream, but we don’t take the actions necessary to give it traction or grow it into anything.  When this happens we are failing to plant the seeds and then wondering why nothing is growing.  Maybe we are waiting until all the conditions are “right” i. e. we’re in the mood, we’ve got more time, we know more, or we’ve got more support.  The thing is… most of the time all those things don’t just fall into place on their own.  Planting the seeds is about creating the congruent conditions that will ground your dream and help you make it a reality.

So that leads me to the part about pulling the weeds…  Sometimes we don’t plant our seeds at all {nothing grows}; sometimes we plant them and forget about them {they grow a little and die of neglect}; and sometimes we plant more than we can manage {a huge harvest that is overwhelming and we get lost}.  In all three of these scenarios the weeds just start taking over.  If your little garden plot is already full of weeds, you won’t be able to plant anything.  If you neglect what you’ve planted, the weeds will take it over and kill it; and if your garden is overwhelming ~ even if it’s not a weed, you may need to thin out the plot so everything can grow better and stronger.

What are the weeds?  The weeds I’m talking about include the inner resistance you feel that blocks you from taking the positive actions you know would benefit you.  These are the limiting beliefs and self-talk that sabotage and undermine you. Here are a few weeds I’ve learned to identify, maybe some of these will sound familiar to you:

The Never Get Started Weed says:  “You don’t know enough, You aren’t talented enough, Who do you think you are?, You can’t do it, What will people think?, What if they judge me? What if I fail? etc.”

The Neglect Weed says: “Just give up, This isn’t going to grow into anything, This is stupid, You’re being selfish by working on your project ~ there are other people who need you, This isn’t important unless I can make money doing it right now, This isn’t important. period. You can only do this when all your other chores are finished, Everything and everyone else comes first, etc.”

The Overgrown Weed says: “You have to say yes to everything so people will like you, You have to do it ALL so no one is ever disappointed, If you miss an opportunity you’ll fail and there won’t ever be another one, If you don’t do it perfectly you’re a failure, Never let them see you sweat, Who needs sleep, food, pleasure?… this work is the important stuff!, Who needs sleep, food, pleasure?… I’m a __________ (Mother, provider, employee, etc.) other people are depending on me, etc.”

The truth is, we all have weeds that need to be pulled, and we’re actually in a great season to be cleaning out and clearing space for the gardens we’d like to see in the spring.  So where are your weeds?  If it’s hard to imagine a life without them or you’re having trouble determining where they are, your first Ace of Coins action step is to find a tool and USE it or find a coach to help you and DO the work that is suggested.  If you’re stalled on a project and feel muddled and cloudy thinking that’s making it hard to see a small action step that you can take, you might try “mind mapping” where you “dump” all your jumbled thoughts out on paper so you can see what’s there in a tangible form.  This action isn’t about making a to do list ~ it’s about cleaning up the mental clutter and it only works if you DO it.  You can’t think about it and get the same effect.  If you’re overbooked and spread thin, your action step is to say “No” to at least 3 things and give yourself some space…. and if you’re hiding out and avoiding planting seeds because you’re afraid of failing, your action step is to say “Yes” to something that scares your pants off.

The Ace of Coins is here to encourage you to be bold and take action that supports your higher vision.  Don’t let the weeds win!  You have a beautiful garden that is ready and waiting to burst forth into full bloom.  You can turn those weeds into nourishing mulch, but you have to DO something so you can really benefit from the experience of seeing the magic first hand. xo

The Call to Blossom

Judgement from the Gilded Tarot

Judgement from the Gilded Tarot

“And the day came when the risk it took to stay tight in the bud was greater than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anaïs Nin

Judgement is the next to last card of the major arcana in the tarot.  It represents the cleansing, clearing, healing and transitioning that happens when one cycle is ending and another is beginning.  When Judgement calls, you are being beckoned by your Higher Self {or Spirit} to be more authentic, more creative, more generous, more compassionate, and more of YOU.  More energy from Spirit is wanting to flow through you out into the world.  You’re being asked to make room for this by allowing it to flow and cooperating with the transformation that’s in process.

You might feel the call of Judgement as an inner stirring or restlessness in it’s more subtle forms.  A mild discomfort may be nagging at you as you start to dream about new ways to express yourself or wonder more about what your purpose or contribution might be.  If this mild disturbance is ignored and left to simmer for a while it might show up as a deep ache for something more in your life or a depression.  If things have been put off for a long while, the call to emerge may turn into an emergence-y that forces you to transition in a hurry.  Whatever is coming up, you can trust that it is happening in the perfect way and at the perfect time for you.  Your job is to stay spiritually awake and be a witness to your own blossoming.

Judgement always brings about healing of some kind.  It’s healing that can only occur when the wounds have been witnessed and embraced by the cleansing light of consciousness.  It requires taking an inventory of your life, looking honestly at what is working and what is not, examining your shadows, your wounds and embracing every aspect of yourself.  It can feel like a pretty tall order if you approach it from the perspective of “I’m broken and need to fix all these damaged parts”… but that’s not what you’re being asked to do.  Judgement is about bringing all of it into the LIGHT and letting it all be cleansed, healed and reintegrated.

Often this card depicts naked figures emerging out of tombs.  They are being resurrected and called “home” by the angel’s trumpet.  These figures are summoned to a higher octave of existence, and they emerge into that state naked as a symbol of their wholeness and authenticity.  This can also speak to the process of cleansing that requires us to resurrect the shadows we have buried and embrace these fragmented parts of ourselves.  It’s a process that calls for self-love and compassion.  When we embrace the aspects of ourselves that we have been pushing away and resisting, tremendous healing occurs, and we emerge into a new life.

So what does this mean in terms of your day-to-day?  As I said before, it may mean that you are feeling some discomfort, but fighting against it isn’t the answer.  The guidance from Judgement is to take inventory and look at everything with wide-open eyes and a wide-open heart.  The area where you’re feeling the most discomfort is the area to look at first.  For example:   If you feel like you’re finances are a mess, and it scares you to open your bank statements ~ then it’s time to take an honest look at what is going on there and find the shadows that need to be healed.

It’s actually pretty easy to find out where these shadows are.  All you have to do is ask yourself, “What is my judgement of someone who allows their finances to get like this?”  What is your answer?  Do you judge a person like that to be stupid, selfish, irresponsible, or a loser?  Whatever the painful area is, ask yourself this question:  What is my judgement about this?  You’ll soon discover that you have been your own condemning judge and jury all in one, and the process of becoming conscious of these patterns is exactly what is going to free you.  If you’ve been resisting being a “stupid” person, that is your shadow and your job is to love and forgive the “stupid” part of you.  This is what shadow work is all about, and there are many resources available to help you with this process.  Check out any of the books by Debbie Ford for starters, or find a spiritual coach for support.  This journey is worth every ounce of effort because it’s leading you to FREEDOM.

Ultimately, the Judgement card is about freedom from all those inner judgements which turn into shadows and drain away our ability to authentically express our Spirits.  What is Judgement asking you to take a look at?  It may be uncomfortable in the moment, but it’s a sign that something pretty amazing is in the works.  Consider the tiny acorn.  Everything necessary to become an oak tree is packed into this small seed.  It doesn’t have to do anything or go get “oak tree” material from anywhere else.  However, when the time comes, it does have to shed its hard outer shell and allow the seedling to sprout.  It has to transition from being an acorn into a seedling and then into a sapling.  Everything it needs is already within it, but it has to allow the transformation.  When the Judgement card shows up it is time for a transition from self-judgement into self-compassion so that you can blossom and release the amazing YOU that has been bottled up inside. xo
