Get Acquainted with Your Higher Self

Higher Self Newsletter HeaderEveryone has intuition and a lot of us are even gifted in this department, but because of various blocks, belief systems, or lack of encouragement… it is possible to shut down that connection.  It’s never really gone, but we can feel like it is.

When our intuition is “offline”  the symptoms are a lack of self-trust, fear, and ungroundedness.  It can be extremely disempowering.  Often we feel like something is wrong with us because we’re struggling with energetic sensitivity, poor boundaries, spinning our wheels, and intense vulnerability.  It’s a worthwhile endeavor to reconstitute this inner connection because it is the source of the good stuff we’re often missing in our lives.

When I first began my journey to reconnect with my intuition, I was suffering in a lot of ways, and I knew deep down that learning to trust myself was imperative.  I began studying anything I could get my hands on about intuition, and frankly it was a bit overwhelming.

The first thing I wanted to know was:  when I use my intuition what am I connecting with?  It was important to me that I understand what kind of information to ask for and what kind of guidance I was getting.  I wanted to know that I was connecting with the LIGHT and that the guidance I was receiving was for my HIGHEST GOOD.

There are lots of sources for intuitive guidance.  You can use your intuition to connect with angels, spirit guides, nature spirits, Ascended Masters, and the Akashic Records… just to name a few.  You can also connect with your Higher Self.  All of these sources of spiritual guidance evolve out of the Divine.

However, not every source of spiritual guidance is good for every situation. For example: angels are extremely loving and can give us beautiful energetic healing and support, but with a few exceptions, most have never incarnated into the 3rd dimension.  They have no idea what it’s like to be cold or hungry or need to make a living… and often angelic guidance is very sweet, loving but not great when it comes to concrete action steps.

Our Spirit Guides  journey with us in this lifetime and most have been incarnated 3rd dimensionally but have much higher vibration rates. They are able to help with next steps and more specific guidance, but they can’t make your problems magically disappear and they won’t interfere.  If we’re not running the show, asking for assistance, and taking action, they sit quietly until we give them something to do.

Actually all spiritual helpers work this way.  They are helpers and we are in the driver seat of our lives.  If we don’t have clear intentions our guides can’t really help us get there, and if we don’t take action on the guidance we receive… they can’t make us do anything.  Ultimately, we’re in charge.

That’s why the best place to begin is connecting with your HIGHER SELF which is the command central for all of these spiritual resources and the headquarters for your soul’s journey.  This is your soul’s internal GPS system and a big ally when it comes to setting intentions and charting a course for your day, your week, or even your life.

As a soul you have a well of gifts and potential just waiting to flow through you out into the world. Your Higher Self is the voice of your inner wisdom, your conscience, and the bright ideas and beautiful visions that come to you when you least expect them.

This divine part of you has a bigger view of your life.  It knows your soul’s purpose, the life lessons it has chosen, and the gifts it has in abundance.  It knows where you are on the map of your life, it can see a lot farther down the road than you can.  It wants to steer you toward fulfillment and happiness.  More than anything, it wants you to recognize that it’s not separate from you – it is you. It’s the best you ever, and it already exists. You aren’t trying to create it or earn it or go out and find it.

You are a channel for your Higher Self and you are here to experience your divine soul gifts. When you are living authentically, giving expression to your deepest desires – creating businesses, artwork, relationships, events, etc. {whatever it is that you’re dreaming about} and expressing your soul’s gifts through these activities, you are expressing your divinity. You are in alignment with your soul, and you will feel a sense of deep satisfaction and fulfillment as you proceed {even if it’s challenging and a little scary sometimes}.

Learning to connect with your Higher Self is empowering because it puts you in touch with your inner truth and places you in the driver’s seat of your life.  It’s a first step towards creating a soul-full life and learning some tools to help you cultivate this relationship can help activate you intuition, stimulate your creativity and strengthen your boundaries.  So get acquainted with your Higher Self and bring your intuition back online for healthy boundaries, clear intentions, and powerful creating.

Plant Seeds and Pull Weeds

Ace of Coins from the Golden Tarot

Ace of Coins from the Golden Tarot

Does life feel like a bit of a roller coaster ride these days?  Maybe you’re having great moments followed by moments of zero inspiration, with spasms of fear and worry thrown in at regular intervals?  I’ve been hearing a lot of spiritual teachers and New Thought leaders talking about “Ascension Symptoms”, and from what I’ve learned, that roller coaster experience just about covers it.  Basically, this comes from the observation that the energy on the planet has shifted and increased in a pretty major way starting in December of 2012.  Even if you’re not a “woo woo” kind of person who gives much thought to such things, you’re probably feeling some sort of change in your life over the past year or so.  I hear people remark frequently that they can’t believe how fast the time is flying by, or they can’t believe the political situations, or they can’t believe how many people are suffering in their relationships or with their finances.  I also hear a lot of stories about miraculous events ~ major epiphanies that are transforming relationships, vulnerable moments that are opening hearts, and acts of generosity that completely amaze and inspire me.

So… what does all this have to do with The Ace of Coins?  I had to pause and ask myself that question when I first pulled this card, but it is becoming more and more clear that we are in a time of learning to do things a new way ~ and that’s exactly what this card is reminding us.  The Aces in the tarot are about new energies, opportunities, ways of seeing and doing.  These cards guide us to plant or tend new seeds in one way or another, but the analogy of the garden is most appropriate for The Ace of Coins {also called Pentacles} because this is the suit that represents the element of Earth.  This card is literally about learning by doing.  When it shows up, the guidance is to take some sort of action even if it’s just a baby step because this is how you become a master gardener.  You have to plant something in the ground and have the experience of tending it to really “get” it.

Many times we have a big vision or a dream, but we don’t take the actions necessary to give it traction or grow it into anything.  When this happens we are failing to plant the seeds and then wondering why nothing is growing.  Maybe we are waiting until all the conditions are “right” i. e. we’re in the mood, we’ve got more time, we know more, or we’ve got more support.  The thing is… most of the time all those things don’t just fall into place on their own.  Planting the seeds is about creating the congruent conditions that will ground your dream and help you make it a reality.

So that leads me to the part about pulling the weeds…  Sometimes we don’t plant our seeds at all {nothing grows}; sometimes we plant them and forget about them {they grow a little and die of neglect}; and sometimes we plant more than we can manage {a huge harvest that is overwhelming and we get lost}.  In all three of these scenarios the weeds just start taking over.  If your little garden plot is already full of weeds, you won’t be able to plant anything.  If you neglect what you’ve planted, the weeds will take it over and kill it; and if your garden is overwhelming ~ even if it’s not a weed, you may need to thin out the plot so everything can grow better and stronger.

What are the weeds?  The weeds I’m talking about include the inner resistance you feel that blocks you from taking the positive actions you know would benefit you.  These are the limiting beliefs and self-talk that sabotage and undermine you. Here are a few weeds I’ve learned to identify, maybe some of these will sound familiar to you:

The Never Get Started Weed says:  “You don’t know enough, You aren’t talented enough, Who do you think you are?, You can’t do it, What will people think?, What if they judge me? What if I fail? etc.”

The Neglect Weed says: “Just give up, This isn’t going to grow into anything, This is stupid, You’re being selfish by working on your project ~ there are other people who need you, This isn’t important unless I can make money doing it right now, This isn’t important. period. You can only do this when all your other chores are finished, Everything and everyone else comes first, etc.”

The Overgrown Weed says: “You have to say yes to everything so people will like you, You have to do it ALL so no one is ever disappointed, If you miss an opportunity you’ll fail and there won’t ever be another one, If you don’t do it perfectly you’re a failure, Never let them see you sweat, Who needs sleep, food, pleasure?… this work is the important stuff!, Who needs sleep, food, pleasure?… I’m a __________ (Mother, provider, employee, etc.) other people are depending on me, etc.”

The truth is, we all have weeds that need to be pulled, and we’re actually in a great season to be cleaning out and clearing space for the gardens we’d like to see in the spring.  So where are your weeds?  If it’s hard to imagine a life without them or you’re having trouble determining where they are, your first Ace of Coins action step is to find a tool and USE it or find a coach to help you and DO the work that is suggested.  If you’re stalled on a project and feel muddled and cloudy thinking that’s making it hard to see a small action step that you can take, you might try “mind mapping” where you “dump” all your jumbled thoughts out on paper so you can see what’s there in a tangible form.  This action isn’t about making a to do list ~ it’s about cleaning up the mental clutter and it only works if you DO it.  You can’t think about it and get the same effect.  If you’re overbooked and spread thin, your action step is to say “No” to at least 3 things and give yourself some space…. and if you’re hiding out and avoiding planting seeds because you’re afraid of failing, your action step is to say “Yes” to something that scares your pants off.

The Ace of Coins is here to encourage you to be bold and take action that supports your higher vision.  Don’t let the weeds win!  You have a beautiful garden that is ready and waiting to burst forth into full bloom.  You can turn those weeds into nourishing mulch, but you have to DO something so you can really benefit from the experience of seeing the magic first hand. xo

The Call to Blossom

Judgement from the Gilded Tarot

Judgement from the Gilded Tarot

“And the day came when the risk it took to stay tight in the bud was greater than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anaïs Nin

Judgement is the next to last card of the major arcana in the tarot.  It represents the cleansing, clearing, healing and transitioning that happens when one cycle is ending and another is beginning.  When Judgement calls, you are being beckoned by your Higher Self {or Spirit} to be more authentic, more creative, more generous, more compassionate, and more of YOU.  More energy from Spirit is wanting to flow through you out into the world.  You’re being asked to make room for this by allowing it to flow and cooperating with the transformation that’s in process.

You might feel the call of Judgement as an inner stirring or restlessness in it’s more subtle forms.  A mild discomfort may be nagging at you as you start to dream about new ways to express yourself or wonder more about what your purpose or contribution might be.  If this mild disturbance is ignored and left to simmer for a while it might show up as a deep ache for something more in your life or a depression.  If things have been put off for a long while, the call to emerge may turn into an emergence-y that forces you to transition in a hurry.  Whatever is coming up, you can trust that it is happening in the perfect way and at the perfect time for you.  Your job is to stay spiritually awake and be a witness to your own blossoming.

Judgement always brings about healing of some kind.  It’s healing that can only occur when the wounds have been witnessed and embraced by the cleansing light of consciousness.  It requires taking an inventory of your life, looking honestly at what is working and what is not, examining your shadows, your wounds and embracing every aspect of yourself.  It can feel like a pretty tall order if you approach it from the perspective of “I’m broken and need to fix all these damaged parts”… but that’s not what you’re being asked to do.  Judgement is about bringing all of it into the LIGHT and letting it all be cleansed, healed and reintegrated.

Often this card depicts naked figures emerging out of tombs.  They are being resurrected and called “home” by the angel’s trumpet.  These figures are summoned to a higher octave of existence, and they emerge into that state naked as a symbol of their wholeness and authenticity.  This can also speak to the process of cleansing that requires us to resurrect the shadows we have buried and embrace these fragmented parts of ourselves.  It’s a process that calls for self-love and compassion.  When we embrace the aspects of ourselves that we have been pushing away and resisting, tremendous healing occurs, and we emerge into a new life.

So what does this mean in terms of your day-to-day?  As I said before, it may mean that you are feeling some discomfort, but fighting against it isn’t the answer.  The guidance from Judgement is to take inventory and look at everything with wide-open eyes and a wide-open heart.  The area where you’re feeling the most discomfort is the area to look at first.  For example:   If you feel like you’re finances are a mess, and it scares you to open your bank statements ~ then it’s time to take an honest look at what is going on there and find the shadows that need to be healed.

It’s actually pretty easy to find out where these shadows are.  All you have to do is ask yourself, “What is my judgement of someone who allows their finances to get like this?”  What is your answer?  Do you judge a person like that to be stupid, selfish, irresponsible, or a loser?  Whatever the painful area is, ask yourself this question:  What is my judgement about this?  You’ll soon discover that you have been your own condemning judge and jury all in one, and the process of becoming conscious of these patterns is exactly what is going to free you.  If you’ve been resisting being a “stupid” person, that is your shadow and your job is to love and forgive the “stupid” part of you.  This is what shadow work is all about, and there are many resources available to help you with this process.  Check out any of the books by Debbie Ford for starters, or find a spiritual coach for support.  This journey is worth every ounce of effort because it’s leading you to FREEDOM.

Ultimately, the Judgement card is about freedom from all those inner judgements which turn into shadows and drain away our ability to authentically express our Spirits.  What is Judgement asking you to take a look at?  It may be uncomfortable in the moment, but it’s a sign that something pretty amazing is in the works.  Consider the tiny acorn.  Everything necessary to become an oak tree is packed into this small seed.  It doesn’t have to do anything or go get “oak tree” material from anywhere else.  However, when the time comes, it does have to shed its hard outer shell and allow the seedling to sprout.  It has to transition from being an acorn into a seedling and then into a sapling.  Everything it needs is already within it, but it has to allow the transformation.  When the Judgement card shows up it is time for a transition from self-judgement into self-compassion so that you can blossom and release the amazing YOU that has been bottled up inside. xo

Tapping the Treasure of Your Intuition

The High Priestess from the Gilded Tarot

The High Priestess from the Gilded Tarot

The High Priestess has come up during these hot August days to invite you into your own cool inner sanctuary.  She’s all about being inward, and the gifts she brings are heightened intuition, new knowledge, understanding and ultimately… peace.  She wants you to learn something about yourself, and she’s asking you to be still, listen, and pay attention to the subtle magic and miracles that are sparkling all around you.

It’s a great time to talk about tools to help you trust your inner knower.  The truth is we are all blessed with a sixth sense, and it’s available anytime.  If you’re already pretty aware of this, then The High Priestess is calling you into a quiet space to connect because there’s a message in your “inbox”.  However, if this is a new concept for you… she may be inviting you to learn something that will help you cultivate and strengthen your connection.

The world we live in doesn’t really support the notion of intuition, and it definitely doesn’t encourage us to slow down and go inward.  We are very busy people struggling to balance what seems like a never-ending stream of worldly demands.  But guess what?  One of the best gifts and secrets that The High Priestess offers is this:  When you learn to work with and trust your intuition it makes everything you do in life easier.  It also makes for a more fun and interesting journey.

You may have a spiritual book of some kind calling to you or a workshop you’ve been thinking about taking.  Maybe you’ve been “trying” to start a meditation practice that hasn’t really taken off.  These are callings with pretty straightforward instructions, but what if you’re just not sure what this means for you?  She may be calling you to cultivate your intuition.  In this case I recommend using an oracle deck of cards.

Years ago my spiritual journey really evolved when I purchased a deck of angel cards and starting pulling one everyday.  Although I was very intuitive, sensitive, and empathic I had never really learned to acknowledge {let alone use} these skills.  In fact, everything I had learned for most of my life had taught me to disregard my intuition and put my faith in the external or “real” world.  This strategy was not working for me.

I was going from one drama to the next, feeling every blow very deeply.  The first instructions I received for healing involved taking care of my physical body, but as soon as I had reclaimed some of my vitality I knew that I had to eliminate the drains on my spirit. I needed to rekindle my intuition, so I could navigate better in the future.

The High Priestess called me into my inner sanctuary for a major drama detox and spirit cleanse, and my angel cards became the tools I used to get acquainted with my intuition.  These cards helped me learn the language of my spirit so I could communicate with it more easily.  Later I added more cards {including the Tarot} to my collection and my “vocabulary” grew because my conscious mind learned to interpret the symbols and information coming from my unconscious.

All of our spirits are fluent in symbolism ~ that’s the language your intuition speaks.  It may come up for you as random words, images, sounds, colors, memories, feelings, or sensations in your body.  It’s unique for each person, but it is there if you start looking for it.  Finding a way to discern what these symbols mean for you is what is important.  Once you agree on a system with your spirit it will work with you.

I knew nothing about tarot cards when I first began and had a lot of apprehension about them because of scary movies with scenes of gypsies making ominous predictions.  The first thing I learned about the cards was this:  A tarot card or oracle card is a piece of paper with pictures and numbers printed on it… nothing more.  It doesn’t have special powers.  The cards can’t do anything to you.  They simply use archetypal symbolism to help you learn about yourself and your relationship with the world around you.  You have the power, not a paper card.

If this resonates for you, all you have to do is choose a deck you love and draw a card everyday for guidance.   Just use the images to give you messages from your spirit for your highest and best good.  Keeping a journal is a great thing to do too because you can choose your card and then write down all the meanings it has for you.  Over time this practice can go from a learning exercise to a full blown conversation with your highest self and life truly does become magical.  When we let our inner wisdom guide us, we’re always on the best path, so check in and see where The High Priestess is guiding you.  There is amazing treasure waiting to be discovered within.  xo

Willingness Makes Room for the Miracle

The Ace of Swords from the Golden Tarot

The Ace of Swords from the Golden Tarot

Before I dive into the message of the Ace of Swords I want to invite you to take a deep breath.  You might even want to do this a few times because the Ace of Swords is the tarot’s entry into the element of air and our breath is the most basic and fundamental way we can connect with spirit. It’s actually impossible to be stressed out while taking slow deep breaths, and something as simple as breathing is exactly what the Ace of Swords wants you to consider.

It’s the most positive of all the sword cards in the tarot, and I particularly like the Golden Tarot’s images of angels for each of the 4 aces in the deck.  The aces are all about new, unformed energies moving into our lives.  These energies bring raw potential and invite us to act on intuition, be open to new ideas, stay positive, and take first steps even if we’re not exactly sure where it’s all going.  We’re asked to join in the dance with the Divine, loosen up, and enjoy the present moment.

The suit of swords represents the element of air in the tarot.  This is the realm of the mind, and all the other sword cards traditionally depict all the ways we can box ourselves into corners and the varying degrees of difficulty we can conjure up for ourselves when we get stuck in our Intellectual Mind or run by our Ego Mind.  The Ace of Swords, however, speaks to the Holy Mind, and the only thing it asks from us is our willingness to see things from a new perspective.  It is calling for us to be open to shifts in perception.  This may seem small, but these shifts can be total game changers in our lives.

There are times when our minds are simply closed to new insights out of habit, and it isn’t something we can force open using our personal will.  We may think that all our problems would go away if the outside circumstances would change, but in truth, if we’re able to see things differently and have our perceptions altered, then everything would be transformed.  The metamorphosis occurs on the inside and then the outside can shift into alignment with that… not the other way around.

The Ace of Swords invites you to look at the areas of your life that appear to be stuck, frozen, or just not working and instead of wishing for the situation to change ~ ask yourself:  “Am I willing to see this differently?”  You really don’t have to know all the answers, all you have to do is be willing to allow for a new perception.  That willingness has a magical quality to it because it acts as surrender.  Suddenly the tight contractions of the closed mind start to loosen, and a new thought or bright idea lands in your consciousness like a butterfly lighting on a flower.  It’s not about doing it’s about allowing.  The willingness makes room for the miracle.

Here’s a great example of this that I heard recently.  It’s a story that Stephen Covey tells in his classic book the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and it illustrates how the shifting of perception can change everything:   He was riding on a subway car that was fairly peaceful and quiet.  At one of the stops a father with two small children boarded the car, and the children were completely out of control.  They were extremely disruptive, and he noticed that everyone on the train was becoming irritated.  The father seemed to be oblivious to the children’s behavior ~ kind of lost in his own world.  He started to get very annoyed by the rude behavior of the children and the apparent disregard of the father.  He got so agitated about it that he finally decided to say something to the father.  He said, “Did you know that your children are disturbing the people on the train?  Could you ask them to sit down?”.  The father looked up and said, “Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t realize.  You see we’re all a little out of it at the moment.  We just left the hospital where their mother died a few hours ago.”

Suddenly, the perception of everything transformed.  Nothing about the situation had changed on the outside.  The children were still behaving badly and the car was still disturbed, but this little piece of knowledge changed his entire approach to the situation.  He defenses melted and his irritation evaporated.  He became compassionate and offered to help in any way he could.

A game-changing insight can come in numerous ways.  It could literally come in the form of a clearer understanding of a circumstance like the story above.  We might take a moment to really listen to what someone else is saying and this gives way to more understanding and connection.  It could come as a sudden inspiration or be generated through a new experience.  Sometimes we feel stuck one moment, but we begin the project and the direction unfolds.  One time I lost my cell phone and spent a whole day frantically doing everything I could to locate it.  I exhausted every possibility and myself in the process, and finally gave up the fight and went to soak in the tub.  As I sat in the warm water and began to just breath and relax suddenly I just knew where my cell phone was.  I remembered exactly where I had put it, and that’s exactly where it was.  All of my searching and worrying about it hadn’t altered the situation one bit.  The cell phone was in that same place all along, but my stress about losing it had distorted my memory and I couldn’t perceive what was true.  All I had to do was provide the willingness {in the form of a quiet moment}, and the fog lifted.  The outside didn’t change, but I did.

A Course in Miracles defines a miracle as a shift in perception.  It isn’t about the Divine swooping in and delivering the lottery or the relationship or the experience we feel we’re lacking ~ it’s about our perceptions being transformed so that we can know the truth, connect with our spirit, and see things clearly.  Then we can get into alignment with our heart’s desires and our external experiences can change in a positive way.  You don’t have to figure it all out.

Where do you need a miracle?  Instead of asking the Universe for a specific outcome, ask for a shift in perception that will lead you where you want to go.  Whenever you are feeling doubt, fear, or tension just say:  ” I am willing to see this differently.  I am willing to witness my discomfort.  I am willing to be still for a moment.”  Take a deep breath, be willing to see things more clearly and let Spirit do the rest.

Many blessings to you! xo

Keep Going… You’re Almost There!

9 of Wands from the Golden Tarot

9 of Wands from the Golden Tarot

Are you feeling a little road weary these days?  Does it feel like you are putting one foot in front of the other {and maybe you’ve been doing this for quite a long time}, but you never seem to get “there”?  That’s exactly what the 9 of Wands is all about.  In this particular version of the card there is a wounded soldier who paints a good picture of what it means to keep “soldiering on”.  The refuge of his destination is in site, but he still has a ways to go before he reaches it.  It’s that “so close, and yet, so far” moment that I think we can all relate to in one way or another.  It’s also a moment when we may feel tempted to give up… when we feel victimized by our circumstances and nothing we seem to do is getting us anywhere.  Simply put, we’re tired, and inspiration is running low.

I know that I certainly relate to this situation, and whenever I get the 9 of Wands I know that in some way I’m being acknowledged by the Divine.  After all – this card is from the suit of wands which represents the element of fire in the tarot.  It’s a symbol of Divine inspiration, Divine guidance, and Divine intervention.  The first thing this card tells us is:  “You are not alone”.  I always find this to be comforting because part of the weariness and defeat we’re talking about here comes from a sense that we are disconnected, doing everything on our own, perhaps even abandoned – and this feels pretty awful.  It’s the voice of the ego mind that tells us this, and it reminds me of a scene from Harry Potter {I love HP}.

In the Order of the Phoenix, Harry is struggling with feeling alone on his journey.  He’s discovered that a lot is riding on him, he knows the truth of his situation, and he feels isolated and misunderstood by just about everyone.  At one particularly low point, he ends up having a conversation with a new friend, Luna Lovegood.  She tells him that she believes in him.  She also says that if she were Voldemort {the bad guy- if you’re not familiar with HP}, she’d want him to feel alone because then he’s not as threatening that way.  That voice of Voldemort is like the ego – it doesn’t like change, it was never on board with this journey you began, and it wants nothing more than for you to give up so it can stay in power.

The 9 of Wands calls out that Voldemort-ish ego out into the light and brings an infusion of hope.  It’s saying: “I believe in you.  You are on the right path!  You are doing marvelous things, and you are doing more than you even realize.”  It’s a sign that you have simply bumped into an internal threshold, and it’s telling you where you need to persevere so you can break through your own patterns of resistance.

It’s not time to give up – it’s time to keep going!  The 9 of Wands is bringing you the gift of encouragement and inspiration to sustain you along the way, and it promises that there is a bigger picture that you just can’t see yet… so guess what?  You’ve got to TRUST.

You may feel that you’re lost in a maze with very high hedges and very little light.  Maybe you’ve been winding your way through this particular maze for a long while… but your higher self has a much broader view of everything.  It can see exactly where you are in the maze, and it knows that you’re only a few yards from the exit – you just can’t see it yet.  The 9 of Wands is a little message from your spirit that says, “Keep walking!   You are almost there, and I’ve got your back – you are not alone.”

So how can you find the gifts of this message as it applies to your own life?  Take a few minutes and ask yourself these questions:

~What is going on right now that makes me feel defeated?

~Do I always get stuck and want to quit when I get to this point in a project or a relationship?  See if you can zero in on what that is because it’s valuable information about your threshold.

~Where am I resisting or procrastinating?  What step am I just not wanting to take?  The answer to this question tells you what you need to do.  If you’re resisting sitting at the computer and working on that book, then you need to write the first sentence.  If you’re resisting a project, you need to make that phone call or work on whatever task you’re avoiding.

~How would I feel if I knew this task, project, or situation was completed, started, or resolved?  Focus on the feeling that comes up and let that be the inspiration that keeps you moving forward.  Progress may feel slow, but every step you take is one step closer to liberation.

When the 9 of Wands shows up it is telling you that you’re moving through a place where you normally get stuck.  It’s a message in a bottle from your Higher Self saying, “You’ve got what it takes to make it through, and you’re so close!”  It’s a moment to trust.  Trust that you wouldn’t have the desire to move in this direction in the first place if you weren’t already blessed with everything you needed to get there.  You are in the process of bursting out of your cocoon and your spirit is cheering you on.  You’ve got this!  You can do it!  Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and know that you’re almost there. xo

Put Your Action Where Your Heart Is

The Chariot from Gateway to the Divine Tarot Deck

The Chariot from Gateway to the Divine Tarot Deck

I just spent a fabulous and regenerating weekend at Kripalu and had the pleasure of taking a workshop with Howard Martin from The Institute of HeartMath – all about Connecting with Your Heart’s Purpose and Creating a Heart-Based World.  This subject definitely spoke to me, and I was inspired by all that I learned.  It seems no accident that today is all about The Chariot, and the key words here are: Trust, Alignment, and Victory.  Or another way to put it would be: Trust your Heart, Align your thoughts, words, and deeds with the desires of your Heart, and this will lead you to Victory.  The Chariot is asking me to put the wonderful things I learned this weekend into practice, and I want to share the message of this card along with some of the gems from that workshop.

The Chariot is number 7 of the major arcana, and in my own work with the tarot and the work I’ve done with others I have noticed that the 7’s often bring up confusion or resistance (sometimes I even feel like confusion is a form of resistance – but that’s another article.)  Mainly it’s because of that big T word – Trust.  Sometimes that can be so frustrating to hear when what we’re really hoping for is a loop-hole around having to trust.  Maybe we’ve started down a path because our heart’s were leading us, but now our doubts have been triggered and we’re wondering if we need to keep going or turn back.  We’ve gotten stalled out and our fears are having their way with us.  We just want a clear affirmation that yes, we’re doing exactly the right thing and everything will turn out just fine.  The Chariot does give us this encouragement, but it does it by calling us into action.  It guides us to look at what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.  It asks:  Are you all in or are you walking the fence?  Do you really want what you’re going for or are you giving just enough of your energy to try and test things out hoping that you’ll get your guarantee before you fully commit.  When The Chariot shows up, it is calling us out on the places where we’ve allowed ourselves to remain divided, and it is a blessing when it does show up.  It’s exactly the help we need when our energies aren’t integrated.  The promise of The Chariot is that we can have anything we choose, but we have to fully choose it – we have to commit and align our actions with our highest goals.  The image on the card shows a woman charioteer riding through the ocean with a full moon lighting her path.  She is holding the reigns of two horses.  One horse is black and other is white, and they seem to be veering in different directions.  However, she is holding them steady with her intention and her faith.  She is trusting her heart and her intuition – staying clearly intent on her vision.  This clarity, focus, and right action is keeping her from sinking into the emotional depths of the water and losing her momentum.

If you’re wondering how The Chariot might be speaking to you today, here are a couple of questions and tools to use for clarity and insight.

1.  Take a look at the goals you are currently working toward.  Do these goals inspire you, spark your enthusiasm, and light you up when you think or talk about them?  If they don’t, then you may want to consider changing them because they may not be goals of your heart.  Take some time to listen to your heart – you may need a course correction.  I highly recommend The Quick Coherence Technique designed by The Institute of HeartMath.  All you do is center your awareness on your heart and gently breathe into that space.  Think about something that you appreciate and breathe that feeling of appreciation into your heart.  When you have done this for a few minutes you are in a perfect space to ask for internal guidance.  Write down your question and sit quietly for a few more moments, then write down anything that you received.  Don’t worry if you didn’t receive anything – you can always try again or you may find that the answer just drops in at a later time when you’re least expecting it.  Be open.

2.  If you know that your goals make your heart sing, then The Chariot is asking you to take action.  What tasks are you putting off because they are more challenging or scary?  Where are you feeling the most resistance?  Go there first and acknowledge what you’re feeling.  Just sit with that for a moment.  Make a commitment to some form of action.  If you are feeling overwhelmed,  just do the first thing that comes to mind.  It may be something very simple like finding the business card with the phone number on it, or it could be sending an email, or making a list of the supplies you’ll need.  You can use the Quick Coherence Technique as well to help you zero in on that next action step.  You can also use another wonderful technique from The Institute of HeartMath called the Inner-Ease Technique.  Acknowledge your feelings, do the focused breathing I described above, and then imagine that you are drawing in the feeling of inner ease with each breath.  Anchor and maintain this feeling as you go about your day and notice the difference in how it unfolds.

If you are interested in more information from the Institute of HeartMath check out www.heartmath.org  This Institute is conducting scientific research on the heart and the various ways it works in our bodies and affects our lives.  They have proven that using the Quick Coherence Technique I mentioned above creates an optimal state in which the heart, mind and emotions are aligned and in-sync.  Also, physiologically, the immune, hormonal and nervous systems function in a state of energetic coordination.  In short, our bodies and our lives just work better.  Have a beautiful and productive day! xo
