What You Want, Wants You

img_6540

What you want, wants you…

is a reminder of how Universal Law works.  It means that those deep soul desires and the things you’ve been wanting to create are actually available to you.  It means the thing you  want most is also wanting to come into your life.

All week long this message has been popping up in my mind, and it has been just the encouragement I needed to keep going.  This is often the kind of thought that inspires me to create, and as I worked on this piece the other day, I felt this message go deeper into my bones… so I wanted to share.

“All things are one. And when you want something, all the Universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” -Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

In the past, I had trouble believing this.  In fact, I’d say a lot of the time I felt like I was having to push and struggle and strive to get what I wanted.  I felt like I had to justify wanting it, deserve it, work hard for it… and even then, I might not get it.

This is the way we’re often taught to approach life – and this is exactly what we end up getting:  struggle and disappointment.  It creates a lot of blocks in our flow.

When we live like this it causes a misalignment with our soul and a deep misunderstanding of our power.  It’s also very common… so many of us keep struggling away.

What you want, wants you is telling you that your desires are little love letters from your soul.  They are the glimmers and clues of what is there to be explore and uncovered.

For example:  If you have been dreaming of being an artist… on some level you know it.  Maybe you’ve always found it interesting.  Or you’ve always lit up in art supply stores or have always wanted to write or draw or paint.  Even if you don’t believe you’re particularly talented at art yet…you keep thinking about it and have a desire to make things.

If you have a desire – you also have the gifts and means to manifest it.

We don’t have desires for things that are out of alignment with our souls… the Universe doesn’t work that way.  If you have a soul desire for an experience – then you already possess the keys to opening the door to that experience.  You still have to start where you are though.  You may have to learn something new, take new action, or put forth effort to develop a skill set.

Manifestation always requires effort, but a soul desire tells you that there’s something worth investigating and trying out, and there will be pleasure and empowerment in that effort rather than hard work and struggle.

You’ll know it’s a soul desire because these are the things you deeply want to create {you know, the stuff you keep dreaming about, putting on your vision boards and taking classes to learn more about, etc}.  Your soul generates those desires because it’s whole purpose is to have experiences that give you an opportunity to expand and use your soul gifts.

Of course the ego can want stuff too… but there’s a big difference in an ego attached goal and true soul desires.  Usually an ego goal involves pleasing other people, getting another person to do something or doing things that aren’t a good fit.  Ego goals don’t light us up, they don’t energize us, they don’t inspire us.  In fact, ego goals usually take us out of our “zone of genius” and often don’t take into consideration what brings us joy.

Reminding yourself that what you want, wants you can actually help you work through the very real ego resistance that often kicks up when we start taking action to realize our soul desires.  It’s a promise that it’s worth the effort to align with your soul gifts because they aren’t separate from you.  Your soul gifts ARE YOU.  Your soul desires ARE YOU.  So you really already have them and they simply want to be uncovered and put to use.

The Universe IS YOU too… and it is conspiring in your favor.  So listen to those little messages, follow those breadcrumbs and take action on those inner nudges from intuition.  You are amazing and powerful – you can create anything you want, but you have to believe it and support it.  Your desires don’t come TO you… they come THROUGH you.

“Whatever you think you can do, or believe you can do… begin it, because action has magic, grace and power in it.”  -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

What is Procrastination Telling You?

IMG_5271

What is procrastination telling you when it comes to those heart felt creative projects that you just can’t seem to get underway?

Often, creative folks have about a million ideas, projects and possibilities they’re holding onto. These may exist in the form of some unfinished project or they’re floating around in your mind and bobbing up to the surface every now and then.

You know you’re procrastinating because one of these big ideas keeps calling to you. In the beginning it was very inspiring. You probably put a lot of mental energy into the idea… there was something in you that said: Yes! I really want to do this!

But somewhere along the way, it dropped off. It never got started or it got set aside.

We all do this (and then give ourselves a hard time about it.) And eventually it starts to feel kind of heavy and gross... because you’re stuck and there’s always something else that seems to take priority over that wonderful thing you want to create.

You’re procrastinating and here’s what’s going on:

Procrastination is telling you 1 of 2 things:

1. It’s telling you that you actually DON’T want to do something. That’s a very different scenario than the one I just described, so I want to make the distinction. Sometimes you procrastinate because you said yes to something out of obligation and now your spirit is rebelling. The solution to this sort of procrastination is to cultivate awareness around the vibration of obligation and stop doing things because you feel you “should”.

OR

2. If you’ve eliminated option one, then you know that your project is a true desire. You’re wondering: Why am I resisting doing this thing that I was so inspired and excited about? The answer is: FEAR.

Underneath procrastination there is always some form of fear. It is literally a holding back, a contraction of energy, and protective mechanism that you’re hard-wired to have when you feel vulnerable. And that’s exactly what happens when you do anything new.

And it’s completely normal. Fear is the typical response we all have to the unknown. So if you’ve been dreaming about a project and failing to take action, it’s because somewhere you’re afraid. And it’s ok.

It’s telling you that whatever you’re dreaming about has the power to change you, to shift you into a new vibration and transform your life. This may be very exciting and also scary as hell. That new action is taking you into an unfamiliar experience which is exactly what your soul is reaching for.

But every step you take to make it more real also makes you realize that things are gonna change.  And this brings your protective ego mechanism into the mix… and that’s why you’re procrastinating. Your ego doesn’t like change.

The first step in overcoming that fear is recognizing what is going on and re-framing it. You probably won’t feel comfortable as you navigate this new territory, but you can keep moving forward by reminding yourself: I’m doing something I’ve never done before and feeling scared is normal. You can get past procrastination. Find your inner courage and take one little step and then another. Movement is the key. You’re not weird or lazy when you procrastinate. You’re having an absolutely NORMAL response to something new.

You’re afraid because you dared to dream up something that BIG… and now the toothpaste is out of the tube. You can’t put it back in. You’re dream is active and it needs you. So use this re-frame on procrastination and take one step. And know that you’re also BRAVE.

Celebrate every little action you take because it’s courageous. Even if you don’t leap tall buildings in a single bound… you’re still making progress. There is a lot happening under the surface that’s re-patterning your vibration into alignment with every action you take. So keep going : )

Stoke Your Creative Fire: Change the Scenery

IMG_5204

What my creative fire produced after I changed the scenery.  Work in progress by Jennifer Currie

As an artist and intuitive, I am a bit of an inspiration junkie. I love that moment when you get the spark of an idea that opens a door to all kinds of possibility. It’s energetic fuel for your creative fire and if you take action, things start to happen.

The creative process is a journey, however, and this is just a part of that path. I feel it most strongly at the beginning of a project and can joyfully follow it to a certain point where inevitably I feel stuck. And I’ve noticed this happens both on and off the canvas.

It happens when I start a new yoga class or diet. It happens when I tackle projects for my business. It happens when I take new classes and start learning something new. There comes a point where that initial burst of creative energy starts to taper off and in order to keep moving forward I need to feed that little spark so it can become a steady-burning fire.

This is where I’ve found that the best thing to do is KEEP GOING… (and trust me, it’s not always the thing I want to do.) ACTION, even if it’s little micro steps that seem insignificant on their own are essential at this stage.

But sometimes we get really stuck and that’s when we need what I think of as a “Pattern Disrupt”. There are lots of ways to do this and get out of ruts, but the BEST way is to change the scenery.

You can change the scenery in really accessible ways by simply taking a different walk to work, going window shopping or trying out pretty much anything new and different.

Sometimes though… we need a big change and traveling to a new place has never failed to re-energize me when I’m feeling creatively droopy. Whether you go on a full-out vacation or simply on a day trip off the beaten path… the fresh and different sights, sounds, tastes and energy of a new place can snap you right out of your creative doldrums and stoke your inner creative fire.

I recently took a weekend trip to Montréal, Canada with my daughter for just this reason. It was a relatively short drive away. It was a different country, and it was a place I had never been… so it definitely qualified as a perfect opportunity to change the scenery.

Olive & Gourmando Coffee Shop, Montréal

We had a great and sometimes not all that comfortable adventure that included getting lost in a maze of tunnels and highways around the city center when our GPS failed, eating some amazing food (definitely a city to go for that!), and stepping out of the very chilly 20 degree spring weather into the balmy, green of the Montréal Botanical Gardens. It was a quick trip, but we got to enjoy the sounds of people speaking French, several amazing lattés, and the vibration of this warm and friendly city.

We returned home exhausted, and then… I noticed after a good night’s sleep in my own bed, there it was: my inspiration! It was back. My energy had returned and my head was full of bright ideas.

When you need to stoke your creative fire, find a way to change the scenery. It may take a few days for the effects to sink in and sometimes it’s instantaneous… but it’s a great way to rediscover your inspiration.

What’s Your Money Story

What's Your Money Story

Your money story has a huge impact on your experience of abundance. Everyone has a money story, but most of us don’ t really know what it is. Often these money stories are fueled by unspoken agreements and beliefs we adopted as children. We are so wide open and sensitive when we’re young that we adopt the unspoken beliefs and patterns of our caregivers even if they aren’t all that great for us.

In addition, there’s another layer to the money story that our families and life experiences tend to magnify. We’ve got money stories that go back further than our current lifetime. We have created blocks and restrictions in past lives as well that impact our experience of abundance and can block our manifesting.

Money stories are quite varied and specific to each of us.

Some of us react to money stress by contracting. This person may scrimp, save and live small… (there’s nothing wrong with saving by the way – it’s a good thing!), but when we do this out of a fearful state, it becomes difficult to enjoy our abundance… even if we have tons of money in the bank, we never feel there is enough and there’s no pleasure in the experience.

Others go to the opposite end of the spectrum and ignore money, hide from it, don’t open their bills and charge up their credit cards… and guess what? This is driven by fear too. Either way it’s uncomfortable.

So many money patterns boil down to fear, overwhelm, and shame.

Money can really trigger us, and often creative folks who have felt they weren’t good with money, didn’t get good grounded training when it came to money management or simply accepted messages about the “starving artist” have stress that’s compounded by feelings of “I’m just not good at this.” And our money stuff likes to hide too. We don’t talk about money much unless we’re talking about how hard it is… and this is the reason we often don’t even know what our money stories are.

Of course, sometimes our money stories can promote ease as well. You probably know someone who seems to be “lucky” and doesn’t really worry too much about money. More than likely they’ve developed fortunate patterns that keep them in flow.

The good news is: we can all do this. We can release those old stories, beliefs and energies and hit the reset button on abundance.

The first thing we need to do is get in touch with those money stories and find out what they are. Sometimes they are tricky to pinpoint, but every time get more conscious of our habits we change our money experience.

Energetic clearing is beneficial to this process because sometimes we really do have old, old stuff bogging us down and making it very difficult to manifest. If we’ve been living with those energies for lifetimes it can be difficult to find our flow and it’s easy to feel like victims of circumstance… but the truth is: we are powerful creators and money is a tool for creating new experiences.

Getting empowered in this department does a lot more than straighten out your bank account – it’s a soul level transformation.

Money gives us the opportunity to have more choices and the more choices we have, we do indeed have more responsibility… but we also have something else: more personal power. It doesn’t come from the money… it comes through the process of manifesting.

We are whole beings which means that all the areas of our lives are not separate. Your money story is indicative of a vital life force energy drain (or flow) that’s happening in many ways… and it’s not always linear. Often there are changes that need to be made with relationships or health because what needs to be addressed is an energetic pattern that’s out of alignment.

The 2nd thing we need to understand is that we all have money strengths… we have soul gifts that we can use and we often have skills and qualities that we’ve been overlooking. Our brilliance can get dimmed down and overlooked when we’ve got those energetic blocks and restrictions.

The spring cleaning around your money story starts by looking at the soul-level story and the story from your current life… so you can excavate and become conscious of the stuff that’s helping and the stuff that’s not.

Then you get to be the dazzling creative soul you truly are and rewrite that story. This requires insight combined with new actions. You’re never stuck – you can always create something new and finding out what needs to be tweaked, what habits need to be released and what new actions will bring you into a greater experience of empowered abundance… that’s where it all comes together.

So what’s your money story? One great question to help you discover the answer is: “What is the energy that comes up for me when I think about money or take money actions?” Start checking in with this question and paying attention to what goes on for you around money, because money loves attention and you’ve already begun shifting with this seemingly small action. Here’s to blessings and abundance!

Magical Thinking versus Believing in Magic

Magical Thinking2What is the difference between magical thinking and believing in magic?  Let me begin this by making it really clear what I mean when I say “magic”. I’m not talking about pulling rabbits out of hats or Harry Potter. I want to talk about the energy of magic and the 2 ways I notice people embrace it. One of these mindsets can be beneficial and the other is disempowering… so let me explain:

Believing in magic resonates with the vibration of expansion and possibility. When we can embrace possibility, all kinds of manifesting magic starts to happen.

We get into a state of wonderment and faith. We try things out, follow our intuition and meet life with curiosity. We notice synchronicities, we have our eyes open to beauty and we’re able to delight in these things when we find them.

I’m a big advocate of believing in magic… because it brings fun, whimsy and open-heartedness to our experiences. You hold the door open for good things to happen… and very often good things walk right on in.

But there’s a big difference between believing in magic and magical thinking.

Here are a few phrases that illustrate magical thinking:

“It was meant to be. The Universe will save me. The Universe will make things happen. If it’s meant to be, the Universe will deliver it. The Universe must have had different plans for me…” You get the gist.

Now I realize that there are a lot of romantic, faith-promoting themes found in this mindset, and it’s often part of the soul purpose journey to start seeking the signs, looking for the synchronicities and having faith that the Universe, God, the Divine (however you like to think of it) has your back. The Universe does have your back, but it’s a co-creative force that works with you… it doesn’t grant wishes like a fairy godmother and it’s not the boss of you.. it responds to your will.

Magical Thinking can be quite disempowering mainly because we end up waiting. (cue Disney’s Snow White singing: “One day my prince will come… “.)

We don’t set intentions, we don’t take the actions we need to take, and we often miss opportunities.

We also don’t give ourselves credit for the amazing things we do create. I’ve watched people work their butts off to meet an amazing goal only to say when it all came together…”(sigh) it was just meant to be.”

We can miss the real magic that’s happening because we’re distracted by trying to figure out what that random meeting with a person we knew in college was all about. (Sometimes it really is just a random meeting- maybe the real gift was that it was a nice surprise) We misinterpret the impulses of our intuition and end up undermining our security or creating a lot of drama with an ungrounded leap of blindfaith because we expected the Universe to catch us.

You are the creator of your experiences and believing in magic helps you get into a dance with the Universe and collaborate. Magical Thinking often leads to abdicating responsibility and hoping that some magical force of good will come in and rescue you.

As an empowered creative soul, embrace the magic… but remember that the Universe responds to your will and you’re in the driver’s seat of your life. You can go anywhere you choose, but you have to take the wheel.

Get Acquainted with Your Higher Self

Higher Self Newsletter HeaderEveryone has intuition and a lot of us are even gifted in this department, but because of various blocks, belief systems, or lack of encouragement… it is possible to shut down that connection.  It’s never really gone, but we can feel like it is.

When our intuition is “offline”  the symptoms are a lack of self-trust, fear, and ungroundedness.  It can be extremely disempowering.  Often we feel like something is wrong with us because we’re struggling with energetic sensitivity, poor boundaries, spinning our wheels, and intense vulnerability.  It’s a worthwhile endeavor to reconstitute this inner connection because it is the source of the good stuff we’re often missing in our lives.

When I first began my journey to reconnect with my intuition, I was suffering in a lot of ways, and I knew deep down that learning to trust myself was imperative.  I began studying anything I could get my hands on about intuition, and frankly it was a bit overwhelming.

The first thing I wanted to know was:  when I use my intuition what am I connecting with?  It was important to me that I understand what kind of information to ask for and what kind of guidance I was getting.  I wanted to know that I was connecting with the LIGHT and that the guidance I was receiving was for my HIGHEST GOOD.

There are lots of sources for intuitive guidance.  You can use your intuition to connect with angels, spirit guides, nature spirits, Ascended Masters, and the Akashic Records… just to name a few.  You can also connect with your Higher Self.  All of these sources of spiritual guidance evolve out of the Divine.

However, not every source of spiritual guidance is good for every situation. For example: angels are extremely loving and can give us beautiful energetic healing and support, but with a few exceptions, most have never incarnated into the 3rd dimension.  They have no idea what it’s like to be cold or hungry or need to make a living… and often angelic guidance is very sweet, loving but not great when it comes to concrete action steps.

Our Spirit Guides  journey with us in this lifetime and most have been incarnated 3rd dimensionally but have much higher vibration rates. They are able to help with next steps and more specific guidance, but they can’t make your problems magically disappear and they won’t interfere.  If we’re not running the show, asking for assistance, and taking action, they sit quietly until we give them something to do.

Actually all spiritual helpers work this way.  They are helpers and we are in the driver seat of our lives.  If we don’t have clear intentions our guides can’t really help us get there, and if we don’t take action on the guidance we receive… they can’t make us do anything.  Ultimately, we’re in charge.

That’s why the best place to begin is connecting with your HIGHER SELF which is the command central for all of these spiritual resources and the headquarters for your soul’s journey.  This is your soul’s internal GPS system and a big ally when it comes to setting intentions and charting a course for your day, your week, or even your life.

As a soul you have a well of gifts and potential just waiting to flow through you out into the world. Your Higher Self is the voice of your inner wisdom, your conscience, and the bright ideas and beautiful visions that come to you when you least expect them.

This divine part of you has a bigger view of your life.  It knows your soul’s purpose, the life lessons it has chosen, and the gifts it has in abundance.  It knows where you are on the map of your life, it can see a lot farther down the road than you can.  It wants to steer you toward fulfillment and happiness.  More than anything, it wants you to recognize that it’s not separate from you – it is you. It’s the best you ever, and it already exists. You aren’t trying to create it or earn it or go out and find it.

You are a channel for your Higher Self and you are here to experience your divine soul gifts. When you are living authentically, giving expression to your deepest desires – creating businesses, artwork, relationships, events, etc. {whatever it is that you’re dreaming about} and expressing your soul’s gifts through these activities, you are expressing your divinity. You are in alignment with your soul, and you will feel a sense of deep satisfaction and fulfillment as you proceed {even if it’s challenging and a little scary sometimes}.

Learning to connect with your Higher Self is empowering because it puts you in touch with your inner truth and places you in the driver’s seat of your life.  It’s a first step towards creating a soul-full life and learning some tools to help you cultivate this relationship can help activate you intuition, stimulate your creativity and strengthen your boundaries.  So get acquainted with your Higher Self and bring your intuition back online for healthy boundaries, clear intentions, and powerful creating.
